FAQ and limits

Straight answers to the questions people ask before and after they start using pong.

About pong#

Who makes pong? What is Vira Labs?+

pong is made by Vira Labs, in Quebec, Canada. The website is trypong.app. Reach the team at founders@vira-labs.com.

How is pong different from other AI assistants and agents?+

Three things. Each person gets their own computer in the cloud, so jobs keep running after the chat and there's a real workspace for files, installs and servers. Its browser is yours too, keeps your sign-ins and gets into sites that block most bots and agents, and you can watch it live and take over. And it's social: it lives in your group chats and links with your friends' pongs. See How pong works.

Is it free? What does it cost?+

pong is free while it's in beta. There are daily usage limits, and they reset at midnight in your timezone. Hosting an API includes 40 awake hours a month; more are CA$12 for 40, or CA$99 for 30 days of always on. The details are on the pricing page.

How do I get access? Is there a referral program?+

Sign up at trypong.app. The beta opens in waves, so most people join a waitlist. A referral code from the team (it looks like PONG-XXXX) lets you in right away. There's no reward program for referring people.

How fast is it?+

A simple reply takes a few seconds, including waking a sleeping computer. Browser jobs take minutes because pong is actually opening and comparing the sites. They run in the background with up to three workers at once, and you get one answer at the end.

Which AI model does pong use?+

Ask pong "what model are you running?" and it tells you the exact model and provider it's on right now. Builders can switch to their own ChatGPT plan or any OpenAI-compatible model in the developer console.

Channels and messaging#

Which apps does pong work in?+

iMessage, WhatsApp and SMS. Your phone number is your account, so all three reach the same pong with the same memory. See Quickstart.

Can pong read my WhatsApp or iMessage chats?+

No. pong sees the messages you send it and the group chats you've added it to. It has no access to your other conversations or your message history.

Can pong make or take phone calls?+

Not today. pong works over text, photos, files and voice notes you send it. It replies in text.

Can I send voice notes?+

Yes. pong listens to voice notes you send and replies in text.

Does pong have its own email address?+

No. Connect your Gmail or Outlook and pong works through your own mailbox: it reads, drafts and (when you ask) sends as you. See Email and calendar.

Why does pong put 👀 on my messages? Can I turn it off?+

That's how you know pong picked your message up. It can't be turned off or changed to another reaction.

Does pong message me out of the blue?+

Only for things you set up or that need you: a routine you asked for, a watch that fired, a long job that finished, or new mail that actually needs you once your mailbox is connected. It doesn't send check-ins or marketing.

Doing things#

How proactive is pong in the background?+

It runs routines and watches on its own schedule, sets them itself when a job needs a later look, checks back on long jobs, and reacts to important new mail. In the background it prepares (reminders, drafts, watches, calendar checks) and never pays, sends mail or does anything irreversible.

Can I see what pong's browser is doing? Can I control it?+

Yes. The browser page on your dashboard shows it live, and I'll drive this hands you the page until you give it back. See The browser.

Can I see and control pong's computer?+

Yes. The computer page shows the services pong is running, with live logs and stop and start, and a file manager for the whole workspace: upload, preview, download, rename and delete. See Your computer and Files.

Will pong spend my money without asking?+

No. It always stops at the total and asks. Paying for things itself is part of Pong Cash, which is coming soon, and even then every payment needs your yes.

Is there a wallet to store my cards?+

Not a card wallet. Pong Cash (coming soon) is a prepaid balance you add to by card through Stripe; pong pays from that balance and never sees your card number. Website logins go in your vault.

What if a site blocks pong?+

Most sites open for it. If one still won't, or every road to what you asked for is closed, pong tells you plainly and says what it can still do instead of quietly settling for something easier.

Builders#

Can pong host an API for me? What are the limits?+

Yes, on your pong's computer, behind one private link your systems call with your secret key. There's no rate limit; up to 32 calls can wait at once, each up to 1 MB, answered within 8 seconds (45 when it has to wake the computer). By default it sleeps with the computer; ask for always on or a schedule of days and times. Each month includes 40 awake hours, and more can be added. Details in Host an API and Pricing.

Can other systems call my pong-hosted API?+

Yes, with the secret key from the developers page as Authorization: Bearer. There's no public, unauthenticated mode.

Can I bring my own model?+

Yes: sign in with your ChatGPT plan, or point pong at any OpenAI-compatible endpoint with its address, key and model name. A model on your laptop needs a public HTTPS address. See Developer console.

Can pong push code to GitHub?+

Through the GitHub connection, as commits and pull requests. The computer itself doesn't git push. See Connected apps.

How do I sign in to the dashboard?+
